Mehron and Kryolan are water activated moist cakes. I see them used as primers for eye makeup sort of like Mac Paintpots, in reviews they are said to be comparable. I see them all the time, in random searches and more and more in blog posts and youtube mentions. So I decided to make mention of them and bring them to your attention, just in case your interested. :)

HD makeup

I recently went to Sephora and tried the Makeup Forever HD foundation.
I colour matched myself so it's possible that I am off. I believe that I am colour 178. What I liked about this foundation is it's in pump format so you have a bit more control of how much product comes out.
I liked how they had models showing the colour of each foundation so you could see the difference between 175 and 175 without your hand being covered in foundation. Again there just to give you an idea of what colour you may be but I liked them.

I also tried the HD powder, it is sooooo soft and smooth and it is very fine, I tried MUFE's kubuki brush. LOVE it. Its so soft i couldn't stop touching it. I ran my hand over it for at least a good minute, No lie :)

Problems.....

Okay so I am experiencing some problems, I have changed my url address a few times ( I was so naive) I thought that It didn't make any difference. How wrong I was.

I have found that posts that were published under the other names will not show up when I try to click on them now, which I am finding very frustrating.

I have tried to make "corrections" or "changes" to the posts but I haven't had any luck with that tatic.

Has anyone experienced this before, any adivce to offer, I would appreciate it.

Porcelain-skinned redhead

The romantic ideal of alabaster complexions is so alluring. I think of Botticcelli when it comes to these gorgeous women. Yet, a lot of women with this coloring have a tough time finding makeup colors that look best on them. I blame the old mindset that cool pinks (like mauve) are the way to go for redheads. The opposite is true! Soft peaches, coppers, bronzy tones, everything your grandmother was told not to wear will make your skin glow (freckles included) like nothing else!

Highlight
Look for a sheer white or vanilla tone. Although you will barely see it, the effect will create a subtle "halo" of light that makes your eyes pop.

Eyes
Choose sable or chocolate browns, toasty taupes, pale golds, peaches, light bronzes, coppers, burgundy browns, eggplants, or khaki greens. Brown mascara looks more natural than black, which can be too harsh against fair skin; this is one of the few cases where I'll say this, otherwise, I prefer black mascara.

Cheeks
Pick peaches, apricot pinks, or light coal shades.

Lips
Think peaches and warm pinks, sheer corals, apricots, honey-colored nudes, raisins, and gold-flecked reds.

Beware the invisible brow fuzzies
Who knows why, but if you are super fair, chances are that your brow bone is decorated with baby fine blonde hairs. You may barely notice them, but once you slide on highlighter, they'll show. Keep this in mind when you groom your brows -- work in bright light (sunlight, ideally) and tweeze those tiny guys away.

The freckle factor
Women who have porcelain skin, especially redheads, tend to be blessed with freckles. People associate freckles with youth -- a good thing! They give you a fresh, sun-kissed look. So please love your freckles and don't try to hide them behind concealer. Let them show!

Blondes

Blondes come in a wide range of skin tones, from porcelain to olive. Colorful shades like pinks and rose bring color to the face and provide contrast.

Skin tones-warm tones

Many of you have probabley seen the words warm or cool skin tone attributed to a cosmetic product. Warm skin tones and cool skin tones can be broken down a bit more to include, olive skin tones, neutral skin tones and others, for now Im going to stick with warm and cool though.

There are many websites that give you different ways you can check to see what skin tone you are, the one chart that I have seen and that I thought was the simplest to comprehend is this one by 3Custom Colour.

In my researching it has proved difficult to narrow down what skin tone is exactly. In my opinion the best explanation by far is that of as mentioned above 3CC.

Many sites try to define whether you are cool or warm by your skin colour. I will post the chart from 3CC and you can see how they do it. I realize that I refer back to that company alot, but they have the most comprehensive information regarding skin tone that is not contrary that I have been able to find.

So Frustrated

I am so frustrated right now its not even funny. For the past three days I have been searching for a 35mm empty pan or tin that would fit into a larger makeup palette. Japonesque has one that I really like, unfortunately the wells are 36mm wide so I need a pan that is 35mm wide, try as I may though, I can not find one of that size, if I find something close it has a lip or a "rolled edge" which Im sure would prove to be a problem. I have even tried searching for "Petri Dishes" and while I found some that were the right size the price was not right, at all.

So here I am still frustrated and wandering why companies make empty palettes of that size but don't sell the empty pans, whats up with that? Furthermore where-o-where are they getting them from? I have searched up and down.

If anybody knows where you can purchase empty pans that are 35mm deep with a "sharp" edge and that don't cost an arm and a leg please-o-please let me know.

Combination skin

Skin care information for those with combination skin. As every makeup lover and wearer knows or should know, makeup starts with good clean perferrabley clear skin, so here are Paula's suggestions for the care of combination skin. It is a little long so please bare with me. :)

Combination skin is a common skin type with the frustration of having to deal with both dry and oily skin. Because the nose, chin, center of the forehead, and the cheeks all have more oil glands than any other part of the face, it is not surprising that those areas tend to be oilier and may break out more frequently than other areas. At the same time, the areas that lack oil glands can become dry and flaky. Problems occur when you attempt to treat combination skin as one unified skin type. Many ingredients that are appropriate for the T-zone (the area along the center of the forehead and down the nose where most of the active oil glands on the face are located) won't help the drier parts of cheeks, eyes, or jaw areas and vice versa. More often than not, separate products are required to deal with the different skin types on your face because different skin types, even on the same face, must be treated differently to truly feel and look better. Once you accept this fact and adjust your routine, combination skin can be brought into balance, at least to the extent that using the right products allows! In fact, "balance" is a key word to keep in mind when dealing with combination skin. The goal is to provide your oily and drier areas with appropriate products that address the needs specific to these skin types.

The fundamental rule for all skin types of treating skin gently apply here, too, perhaps even more so. If anything, using overly-abrasive or irritating skin-care products on oilier areas will only worsen combination skin's dual nature by making dry areas drier and creating a rough, reddened appearance over oily areas. Plus treating skin harshly does not correct or improve oiliness in any way. Because combination skin should be viewed and treated as separate skin types, I have divided the battle plans below into three step-by-step sections. The first section lists general guidelines for combination skin, the second pertains to treating oily areas, and the third offers a protocol for treating your normal-to-dry (and, in some cases, very dry) areas. Special notes are included for dealing with combination skin that also experiences blemishes or blackheads in either oily or normal-to-dry areas.

General Guidelines for Combination Skin

Wash your face with a gentle, water-soluble cleanser that does not leave skin feeling tight or dry. Most combination skin types do well with gel-based or mildly foaming cleansers.
Avoid bar soaps or bar cleansers of any kind, regardless of claims of gentleness or no residue. The ingredients that keep a bar cleanser or soap in its bar form can clog pores, and the cleansing ingredients are always far more drying than a gentle cleanser contains.
If you opt to use a toner, the same toner can be used all over the face if it does not contain ingredients that make oily areas feel slick or greasy. Water- and glycerin-based toners are ideal, but be sure they also contain plenty of antioxidants, water-binding agents, and, if applicable, cell-communicating ingredients.
Sunscreen must be used every day, year-round. Make sure it contains one of these UVA-protecting ingredients: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or avobenzone. A foundation and pressed powder with sunscreen is perfect for this skin type to avoid applying moisturizers with sunscreen all over the face.
Exfoliate and renew skin with regular use of a beta hydroxy acid (BHA/salicylic acid) product. BHA not only exfoliates the surface of skin it also exfoliates inside the pore to improve its shape and function.
Treat dry areas (including the eye area) with a moisturizer loaded with antioxidants, water-binding agents, and ingredients that mimic the structure and function of healthy skin. Regular use of these state-of-the-art ingredients can eliminate dry skin. Make sure the product you buy is packaged in an airtight, opaque container (absolutely no jars) to keep the antioxidants stable.
If sun damage or wrinkles are cause for concern (and they probably are, it is the rare person who has adequately avoided and protected their skin from the sun), consider adding a tretinoin product (Retin-A, Renova, Avita, etc.) to your nightly routine. Tretinoin is a cell-communicating ingredient that can generate normalized cells. These prescription-only products are available in different bases so you may choose the texture (gel, cream, lotion) best for your skin.

Treating the Oily Areas of Combination Skin

Apply a well-formulated (meaning irritant-free and pH-correct) BHA liquid or gel at least once per day. This will not only help prevent oil blockages in the pores, but will also minimize blackheads and control blemishes. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, which allows it to exfoliate inside the pore lining to keep dead skin cells and sebum (oil) from causing problems. It is also acceptable to apply the BHA product over your normal to dry areas. However, you may need a more potent BHA product (one containing 2% salicylic acid, for oily areas. You may have to experiment to see if a product containing 1% salicylic acid is more suitable for normal to dry areas.
Use an oil-absorbing facial mask as needed but only apply it over oily areas. Apply after cleansing, leave on for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly.
If you are prone to blemishes, apply a topical antibacterial product containing benzoyl peroxide. Research in the medical journal Lancet (December 2004, pages 2188–2195) found benzoyl peroxide to be the most effective treatment, in comparison to oral antibiotics (such as tetracycline), topical antibiotics (such as erythromycin), or combination treatments. Oral tetracycline suffered in the comparison because of the common problem of eventual bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Begin with a 2.5% strength and increase the percentage if blemishes are unresponsive. If you are allergic to or your skin cannot tolerate benzoyl peroxide, then you may want to consider topical prescription options such as clindamycin, erythromycin, tetracycline, or Differin (adapalene) Gel. Tea tree oil is also an option, but has limited research supporting its effectiveness, and it is difficult to find the recommended concentration.
For sunscreen, the easiest route is to use a matte finish foundation and pressed power with broad-spectrum sun protection, rated at least SPF 15. You would only apply moisturizer or serum to dry areas prior to applying foundation. If you do not use foundation, choose a regular sunscreen with a matte finish.
Supply oily areas with the antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients it needs in either serum or toner form. In this manner, your skin will benefit without making oily areas worse or causing clogged pores. Make sure the serum is alcohol-free and either silicone- or water-based.
If oily areas become too shiny during the day, use oil-blotting papers to absorb the excess shine then touch up with a lightweight, sheer pressed powder, applied with a brush.
For extremely oily areas, apply a thin layer of plain Milk of Magnesia prior to foundation with sunscreen. The magnesium hydroxide is more absorbent than clays or talc, and also has antibacterial properties for skin. A similar option that is more cosmetically elegant is smashbox’s Anti-Shine in Smashing Neutral (colorless).
If sun- or hormone-induced discolorations are present, choose a gel-based skin lightening product containing 2% hydroquinone and apply at least once per day to affected areas.

Treating Normal-to-Dry & Very Dry Areas of Combination Skin

As described above for treating oily areas, a BHA product is an option, even if blemishes and/or blackheads are not present. The difference is that for drier areas, you may prefer a BHA in a lotion or cream base. Begin with a 1% concentration and step up if needed (this may be necessary during summer months). If blemishes are present over dry areas, a BHA product is a must. Begin with 1% salicylic acid and step up to 2% concentration if needed.
If blemishes and blackheads are not a concern, a well-formulated AHA product may be used all over the face or just over drier areas. For all-over use, choose an AHA gel containing at least 8% glycolic acid. For use over dry areas, you may prefer an AHA product in a lotion or cream base. Both AHA and BHA products are excellent for improving the appearance and feel of sun-damaged skin and encouraging skin cell turnover.
A soothing, moisture-infusing toner may be used after cleansing to reinforce skin's lipid barrier and boost hydration prior to applying a serum or moisturizer. Apply the next product when skin is still damp from the toner.
Since applying two separate sunscreens can be tricky, your best bet is to get daily facial sun protection from a foundation with sunscreen rated SPF 15 or higher. It should have a matte finish for your oily areas. Because a matte finish can exaggerate dry areas, it is essential to apply a rich serum or moisturizer prior to foundation. For obvious reasons, keep such items away from oily areas.
Choose a moisturizer loaded with antioxidants, water-binding agents, emollients, and ingredients that mimic the structure and function of healthy skin. Make sure it is packaged in an opaque container (no jars) to keep the antioxidants stable.
A serum-type product may be all your dry areas need to look and feel better. More severe dryness will benefit from an antioxidant-rich serum paired with an emollient moisturizer.
Use a moisturizing facial mask as needed. Make sure it contains several emollients (such as non-volatile plant or nut oils) and leave on dry areas as long as needed, including overnight.
If your eye area is the driest part of your face, you may need a richer cream or serum than what is needed for other normal to dry areas of your face. Apply sparingly and allow a few moments to absorb before applying makeup. At night, you may want to apply your regular moisturizer to the eye area and follow with a thin layer of olive, evening primrose, or borage oil (all are extremely emollient as well as potent antioxidants).
If blemishes are present over dry areas, apply a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide product in a lotion base. If blemishes do not respond, switch to a product containing 5% benzoyl peroxide. If you are allergic to (or your skin cannot tolerate) benzoyl peroxide, consider topical prescription options such as clindamycin, erythromycin, tetracycline, or Differin (adapalene) Cream.
If sun- or hormone-induced discolorations are present, choose a lotion- or cream-based skin lightening product containing 2% hydroquinone and apply at least once per day to affected areas.

For research and studies supporting these recommendations please refer to the Ingredient Dictionary and look up the specific ingredient (such as alpha hydroxy acid, salicylic acid, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, antioxidant, cell-communicating ingredients, etc.).

1. Concealer Brush: Look for square head to tapered corners, ideal for blending (under eye -square; blemishes-tapered). Long handle, good weight, great for application precision.

2. Foundation Brush: Look for fairly large wide, tapered flat head, ideal for liquid or cream foundations (synthetic bristles okay)3. Large Powder Brush: Look for large, full, rounded brush (dome shape), ideal for loose powder, can also be used for compacts with pressed powder, and loose beads. Regardless of color or ethnic background, all skin is subject to a range of virtually identical problems with similar considerations. Whether it is dry or oily skin, blemishes, scarring, wrinkles, skin discolorations, rashes, rosacea, sensitivity, or sun damage, the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment is the same for all men and women.

Please don’t misunderstand: there are certainly some distinctions between varying ethnic groups when it comes to skin problems and skin-care options, but overall these differences are minor in comparison to the number of similarities. Think of it this way: regardless of skin color, dietary needs remain the same. A high-calorie diet results in weight gain, an unhealthy diet can cause health risks, and if you don't eat you die, regardless of your skin color. As far as skin care goes, skin is an organ (the largest in the human body) and needs the same ingredients and formulations to be healthy or deal with various skin concerns regardless of its color.

Research on this topic supports the points above while also noting the distinctive traits between ethnic skin tones, though contrary to popular belief, these traits don't mean different products are needed for treatment. According to an article in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (February 2002, pages 41–62) "There is not a wealth of data on racial and ethnic differences in skin and hair structure, physiology, and function. What studies do exist involve small patient populations and often have methodological flaws.

Consequently, few definitive conclusions can be made. The literature does support a racial differential in epidermal melanin [pigment] content and melanosome dispersion in people of color compared with fair-skinned persons. These differences could at least in part account for the lower incidence of skin cancer in certain people of color compared with fair-skinned persons; a lower incidence and different presentation of photo aging; pigmentation disorders in people with skin of color; and a higher incidence of certain types of alopecia [loss of hair] in Africans and African Americans compared with those of other ancestry." While skin cancer may not be as much of a threat or concern, skin discolorations resulting from unprotected sun exposure or hormonal concerns are the same as that for women with lighter skin. Of course darker skin tones suffer less sun-induced changes to skin (including dryness) than women with lighter skin tones. This is due to the greater presence of melanin in darker skin tones, but does not mean that such skin tones don’t require a well-formulated moisturizer when/if their skin becomes dry for other reasons. [But] women of color are just as likely to suffer from photo(sun)-induced dermatitis conditions as women with light skin tones, proving that melanin only goes so far toward protecting women of color from sun damage.

A surprising difference noted in the research it is the imperative need to treat darker skin tones gently. When irritated, darker skin tones can stimulate hyperpigmentation causing patches of dark or grayish skin discolorations. Though this is easily treated, the main focus should be prevention. Given my fervent belief over the years that all skin types need to be treated gently, it's encouraging there is research pointing that way for women of color as well. When skin is irritated it cannot protect itself from the environment, it causes collagen and elastin to break down, it hurts the skin's immune response, and can cause skin to become dry (ashen) and flaky.

The bottom line is that regardless of skin color or ethnicity, all skin needs a gentle cleanser, effective exfoliant, state-of-the-art moisturizer (over dry areas), a sunscreen rated SPF 15 or greater containing UVA-protecting ingredients of avobenzone, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or Mexoryl SX (ecamsule) and appropriate treatments for skin discolorations (hydroquinone-based products), blemishes, and wrinkles.

MAC paint pots

So as I have said in previous mosts I am a MAC fan from afar. Recently in my blog browsing I am noticing the mention of MAC paint pots, which retail for$16.50USD. Now I actually saw them listed before but they were of no interest to me. But then I came across some websites where you can purchase samples of MAC pigments and MAC paint pots and all of a sudden they were within my reach. :)

So they have about 10 regular colours I belive and then the colours that come in there collections, such as Fafi.

Most people from what I have read use one basic paint pot such as "painterly" as a base for their shadows in lieu of urban decay primer potion.

I got this list from a board on Specktra.net that was discussing MAC paint pots for women of colour. This is how one person used the some of the colours

Blackground - for when I want my blues and purples to pop-

Rubenesque - Love using this for a smoky brown/black eye-

Rollickin/Deflt/Otherworldly - I wear teals and blues often so these are invaluable. Otherwordly is great for a really bright look-

Groundwork - excellent for a neutral look-

Perky - this one is okay. I use it for neutral or lighter looks-

Rollickin - Great for purple + Blue looks

Crown Brushes

Big wish list item here, and bonus. It is actually within my price range. Crown Brushes. As I type this I am checking out the reviews and so far they are pretty great. I have read on various beauty blogs such as necessarymakeup that they supply costal scents with their brushes, and that they are also comparable to MAC brushes!

Now that is nice. The pictures below are of the Luna Series. The prices range from like a dollar to about 6 dollars. Which for me is super nice :)

I am also going to post a youtube video review by Lizz1901. From the reviews I gather that some of the brushes are a little scratchy so you may want to try one from a series and see. Im pretty sure that I will stick to synthetic brushes as I think that they are super soft. Though I have been told that washing and cleaning your brush regularly makes them softer.

I am lusting after makeup from this mineral company (Alima). Through browsing the mineral makeup blog I came across this company. I have been to there website before but the second time is the charm. They have good priced samples, the foundations are $1.50 and they even let you custom mix three shades and you can get it in a sample as well. Now that is nice. and they have an assortment of colours so I think that it will fit most skin tones.

Ahhh so many things I want to buy and so little money to get them. :(

The advanced recipe for the face serum. The website that the ingredients can be purchased at is www.skinactives.com I am going to try this recipe out when I get the chance. At the moment I have a whole bunch of recipes waiting for me to try so I'll see when I get there. :)

First, use the recommended quantities. Period.

To 1-2 tablespoons of plain vegetable glycerin, add
pinch Ellagic Acid- antioxidant, cancer preventive, anti-inflammatory, helps improve discoloration

pinch Ferulic Acid- cancer preventive, protects the skin against UVB-induced erythema, skin lightener, increases stability of vitamins C (MAP) and E

1/8 teaspoon of Coenzyme Q10- topical application restores mitochondrial activity, increasing energy production plus minimizing energy needed to make new collagen; antiaging, antioxidant, stimulating active, it will push your skin into “high gear”
Mix thoroughly until all actives are dissolved. If you have difficulty dissolving, microwave for 10-15 seconds and mix, mix, mix. Set aside.

Next, to the Fountain of Youth serum, add:
1/8 teaspoon Alpha Lipoic Acid** - (aka ALA) essential for youthful cell function; our bodies’ own production dimishes as we age
pinch Beta Glucan- anti-aging, cancer-preventive
pinch Carnosine- accelerates and improves healing. Prevents wrinkles and loss of elasticity brought about by aging and exposure to sunlight, .also an antioxidant and seems to improve immune response
1/8 teaspoon DMAE** - antioxidant, increases firmness and overall appearance of aging skin
pinch Green Tea ECGC- antioxidant, repair of damage done by UVA radiation, cancer preventive
1/4 teaspoon Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate- (aka MAP) the “real” ester-C, a stable and soluble form of ascorbic acid, stimulates collagen synthesis, anti-aging, anti-oxidant, anti-acne, skin brightening, decrease appearance of sun spots
1/8 teaspoon Niacin- relieves itching, controls sebum products, skin lightening effects
Last, add the glycerin-active mix to the serum. Mix thoroughly. Put the mix into a glass dropper-top bottle or other non-reactive liquid dispensing container.

Some of the actives may never dissolve completely, but they will release their active ingredients continuously. If the undissolved ‘grit’ bothers you, strain your serum using CLEAN muslin, cheese cloth, nylon or any fine-sieve strainer.

DIRECTIONS: Use this super-active serum once or twice a day, after cleansing your skin, before you apply your moisturizer and sunscreen, and after 30 days, you will see smoother, brighter, clearer, younger-looking skin.If you experience ANY irritation…
either your skin doesn’t like one (or more) of the ingredients–in which case you should stop using it altogether and toss it
OR your mix is too concentrated–dilute it with some distilled water until your skin can tolerate it
OR your skin is simply adjusting to one or more of the ingredients–use your serum only once a day when you are not using any other products and if the irritation doesn’t subside after 3-4 days, stop using it and toss it

COSTS: The active ingredients is this serum are exactly the same as those found in the most exclusive, expensive skincare products on the market today. What you’ll spend: $87.00, plus shipping. If you don’t have glycerin, you can find it at most pharmacies or grocery stores, about $6 for 4 oz.

I am very interested in creating or rather making homemade facial care and skin care recipes. For some reason today I had it my mind to make a face serum or rather if I wanted to make a face serum how would I go about that. So I started to google. Yes I do love that search engine. Anyway I found a nice recipe that the blog poster had perfected, It has a basic serum recipe and then an advance part, where there are more ingredients that offer various benefits for you skin. DIY (do-it-yourself) Skincare can be fun, easy and best of all, work wonders on your skin…plus, it costs WAY less than those ultra-expensive beauty products, most of which are a bit of a rip-off (and some of which are a complete scam).

The following Fountain-of-Youth serum is one that can be used by itself but it can also act as a base for other active skincare ingredients. Click on the links to purchase the individual ingredients. Distilled water (a must…no tap water, please) can be bought at your grocery store:
1 1/2 tablespoons of distilled water
1/2 tablespoon seakelp bioferment
1/4 teaspoon hyaluronic acid
1/8 teaspoon Germaben II preservative

Optional ingredients include aloe vera juice (substitute 1/2 tablespoon of water) and plain vegetable glycerin (add up to 1 teaspoon).

Seakelp bioferment is a kelp extract containing vital nutrients that feeds your skin. It’s the “magic” Miracle Broth™ ingredient in Creme de la Mer.

Hyaluronic acid (also called hyaluronate or hyaluronan), produced naturally by the human body, is a component of connective tissue whose function is to cushion and lubricate. So im going to make this into a separate heading. Where I will post items that are on my makeup wish list.

I came across this article from EBS about how to clean your makeup brushes properly and I could not pass it by. So here goes:

Let's face it! Professional makeup brushes are an investment. And, like any other investment, we want a great return on that investment. One of best ways to ensure that will happen is proper brush care. One of the best things you can do for your brushes is to clean them - regularly. Clean them when they are first purchased and clean them on a regular basis to remove:
Old makeup
Dirt & debris
Bacteria
Oils
Dead skin cells

One of the greatest benefits to keeping your brushes clean is softness! Yes, did you realize that makeup buildup, especially foundation, makes your brushes feel scratchy? If you have sensitive skin, cleaning your brushes regularly will help them stay soft and lush! Your skin will thank you!

How often should you clean your brushes? Ideally, everyday. But, who has time for that? So, here are a few guidelines:
Foundation Brushes - minimum once a week
Brushes used for finishing powders and bronzers - once a week
Blush Brushes - one a week
Eyeshadow Brushes - every 2-3 days
Eyeliner Brushes - after every use especially if you use an eyeliner sealant.

For those that suffer with acne, you will greatly benefit from keeping your foundation brushes clean at all times. To cut down on cleaning time, rotate brushes so you always have a fresh clean one to use.

How to clean your brushes:
First, you want to wet the hairs under the faucet with tepid to warm water with the hairs pointing downwards - this will help prevent any water getting in to the ferrule (metal part) or down in to the handle for brushes that don’t have ferrules.

Next you want to use a mild shampoo, liquid hand soap, pure castile soap or our favorite - California Baby Super Sensitive Shampoo & Bodywash. Squirt a little soap on your fingers and apply it to the hairs from ferrule to hair tips. Gently squeeze the hairs from ferrule to hair tips over and over adding a little water at a time. Rinse and repeat until the water runs clear. Make sure when you are rinsing to keep the brush hairs pointing down.

After your brushes have a good bath, brush them off a little on a clean paper towel and lay them to dry on their side on a paper towel or a regular towel. It is also a good idea to reshape the brush at this point in time to prevent splaying. Lay kabuki’s and any other stand-up brush on their side. Never leave them to dry brush hairs up in a brush holder. The water can run down in to the ferrule and loosen the glue holding the brush together over time.

Lastly, let brushes dry completely before using. Dry time will depend on size and brush density.
Keeping your brushes in good condition by washing frequently will provide you with years of beautiful makeup application! Now that's a great investment!

I use QUO brush cleaner. Its a Canadian brand that is from Shoppers Drugmart. It works well for me, but Im going to have to wash my brushes more frequently. Though I am an infrequent makeup wearer.

I have a few smashbox items, they are okay, I have a dual eyeshadow, blush, single shadow, pink lip liner, pink lipstick,I had, 8 mini lip glosses and I have two full size lip glosses. I love those the most out of all the products that I have from them, they look pinky in the tube but when you put it on, there great. I wear them alone or blended with other colours, they help tune down bright colours and mix up others. They are called "Caption" and "AD". I don't think that they have them anymore but they are great.

I found that they last longer when a base is applied such as a clear balm or other lip colour.

I checked their website and they no longer have those colours, infact they pretty much phased out all the colours I have, I guess that has to happen, with all the trends and such.

So I have really, really sensitive eyes. If I use something and they dont agree with my eyes, then it feels like i have a lash in my eye or something else. But there would be nothing there. It did take a while to clue in and realize that my eyes acted like that because they didnt like the product.

That doesn't leave me with a lot of choices as to what companies I can use. Currently only Marcelle and Almay come near my eyes.

This post is about Marcelle though. I currently use there eyeliners, mascara and eye shadow. Now for me they are a little steeper than what im used to paying i.e. $1.99 for Bonne Bell mascara. It now costs me about $10.00 needless to say there will be no product hauling, at least not for a while.

I love all the products that I currently use from them, I do wish that the eyeshadows had some more staying power but im sure there are ways to go around that.

I will start with the eye shadow. It can be used both wet and dry.

I have suede which is a taupe like colour and Amazone which reminds me of olive green. The one thing that I dislike about the shadows apart from there lack of staying power is that I have to be careful how I apply it, else I'll end up looking ashy and ashy don't look good on black folk.It just looks bad.

Next is the mascara, I have it in black from the lash extreme series. It does a good job of coating my eyelashes and accentuating them but nothing spectacular which im fine with. I had purchased the dark brown mascara in the ultimate lash series but my eyes didn't gree with it, so it got passed on to my sister, who Im pretty sure as since lost it :D.

Lastly the eyeliners, I have it black and dark brown, the black gives you a wow look and the dark brown is more a smokey subdued eye, I like both equally well. Both are from there Kohl pencil series. And the best part is that neither one irrates my eye. Now all I need to do is wore on my eyeliner techinque for the upper lashes, any suggestions and tips would be appreciated.

Lumiere brushes

So I've had the brushes from Lumiere Cosmectics for a while but just now decided to do a review on them. I purchased the 9-pc travelling brush set, it includes a Powder Brush,Blush Brush, Mini Eye Buki (crease) Brush,Small Concealer, Shadow Brush ,Spoolie Brush,Flat Angled Liner Brush, Eye Shadow Brush, Thin Liner Brush, Black Nylon Carrying Bag. I only use three of the brushes as I find the other ones too small excepting the spoolie. I use the powder, blush and buki brush. The size of the bristles as well as the handle of the brush is good. My favourite thing about the brushes is that they are soft they are so gentle on my face and dont feel rough and irratating.

I am going to purchase some more brushes from them in the near future( as soon as I can :D)

I want the flat top buffer brush it is " perfect brush for buffing in your foundation, blending your face colors and for applying bronzers" it currently retails for $14.00 on sale

I want the baby kabuki brush ( I currently have one but I find that it is too rough for my face)

Big news. Yesterday I bought some foundation and concealer and an oil mattifier. This is the first time that I have actually purchased foundation, not a sample now but actual foundation.

I had gone to a "facial" session with a Mary Kay consultant, it was nice, not something new to me as it was more of us using the cleanser,moisturizer etc.

So after the facial we tried foundation and lip colour. I used the medium coverage foundation bronze 607 it was a perfect fit, it blended with my skin real nice. Mind you it was in the evening so I have to try it today in the day time, which I will because I have an appointment today, and its sunny.

Im a bit scared though as I have never put on concealer and foundation and powder all that stuff and to add to it I dont have the actual supplies so Ill have to use my fingers.

I like that fact that my skin didnt't react to the makeup, and it felt so light, my aunt( who came with me) said that it looked very natural, so for now it's tops

I have already done a post about some carrier oils but I packed up the post with way too much information so I am going to take each carrier oil and post about it separately so you can get a better understanding.

The first one up is Almond

Sweet almond oil is one of the most popular carrier oils, since it is non-greasy, spreads easily and also is great for nourishing the skin. Sweet almond oil is obtained from the dried kernels of the almond tree. Not only does almond oil help protect the surface of the skin, but acts as an emollient, skin soother and softener while conditioning the skin and promoting a clear young looking complexion ; helps to relieve muscular aches and pains ; helps the skin to balance its loss and absorption of moisture.

It is suitable for all skin types, especially good for dry or irritated skin and helps relieve irritation, inflammation and itching; is greatly lubricating and because it is not an overly fast penetrating oil, it is a good massage medium to use to help spread the oil and essential oil mixture, while still allowing you time to do a good massage before it is absorbed by the skin. Although mostly used on its own as a massage carrier oil, diluting with 10% wheatgerm oil gives a longer shelf life.

Sweet Almond oil is one of the most popular vegetable oils, which is also used in the form of carrier oil or base oil in Aromatherapy. Texture wise, the oil extracted from the seeds of Almond, is a bit oily. The botanical name of Almond is Prunus amygdalus var. dulcus. Sweet Almond has a very light, sweet and nutty aroma. It is absolutely clear in color with a tinge of yellow. Almond oil is an all purpose base oil, which is easily accessible from any retail store specialized in cosmetics.

Rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E. An ideal basic carrier oil, nourishing and protecting to the skin. Calms skin irritation. Can be used on its own or with other carrier oils. Good keeping qualities as it contains vitamin E.

It is further a great moisturizer suitable for all skin types, helps relieve irritation, inflammation and itching, and is greatly lubricating and because it is not an overly fast penetrating oil, it is a good massage medium to use to help spread the oil and essential oil mixture, while still allowing you time to do a good massage before it is absorbed by the skin.

Virgin, cold-pressed sweet almond oil with no additives. An excellent massage oil valued for its viscosity and durability. Good for oily and easily irritated, sensitive skins. Contains vitamins and minerals.

So I am still working on my portfolio and other things in regards to my job search. I am doing three different formats for my portfolio which is part of the reason they are taking so long, also gathering all the photos, scanning them and updating them and then preparing them in photoshop has also been time consuming. I have my resume and cover letter done, I dont think that I will get business cards though, we'll see though.

Okay, so I have been doing some serious job hunting stuff, actually Im not even hunting yet Im just getting ready. I am a bit anal so I may do more than i have to. Cleaning up oil with oil: the oil cleansing method

Acne sufferers have long noticed that a gentle cleanser is more effective than a harsh one. By stripping the skin of all of the natural oils, glands produced even more oil to compensate, escalating the severity of breakouts. By gently cleansing and then applying a light moisturizer, the face was cleared of acne causing agents without aggravating the condition.
Now more people are using oil to clean their faces and help their complexions. People who use the oil cleansing method prefer to use oil to dissolve oil on your skin, rather than harsh cleansers. They know that oil will never bond with water, making some water based cleansing methods ineffective. They are also aware that breakouts are not necessarily caused by oil, but by foreign substances in the pores, in addition to heredity and hormones.

Instead of breakouts, people that regularly use the oil cleansing method report soft skin with a healthy glow. They also report that the oil cleansing method reduces their fine lines and better moisturizes their skin. Other people choose the oil cleansing method because of the cost savings in comparison to expensive skin creams and cleansers

It is important not to confuse the oil cleansing method with specially formulated cleansing oils. Cleansing oils are combined with other ingredients so that they emulsify with water and rinse away. While they are popular and could help your skin, they are not what you should use for the oil cleansing method.

To try the oil cleansing method you will need an oil with no additives such extra virgin olive oil, castor oil, or grapeseed oil. Some people claim that castor oil is a more cleansing oil with healing properties, while olive oil is more moisturizing. What is known is that oils like grapeseed and almond are lighter than castor and olive oil. The only true way to know what oil will work best for your skin is too try it. You can also try combining different types of oils to get better results.
The oil cleansing method can be time consuming, so be sure to have at least twenty minutes to try this technique. Over time you can streamline your method to make this process quicker. Also, many people begin trying the oil cleansing method at night and using their regular skincare regimen in the morning.

Before beginning the oil cleansing method, pull back your hair and wear an old shirt. Then spread a liberal amount of your chosen oil on your face, neck, and chest. Do not worry about cleaning your face beforehand.

Next, wet a washcloth with hot water and lay it over the oil on your face. Wait for the washcloth to cool to room temperature to remove. After you have removed the cloth, slowly massage the oil into your skin and neck. Use firm circular strokes and take your time, concentrating on the T zone of your face. Do not scrub or use your nails. You want to simulate the type of relaxing massage you might receive during a facial.

Using a new hot facecloth, drape it on your face and wait until it has cooled. Then use the facecloth to carefully remove all of the oil. Use additional clothes or rinse out the one you are using to be sure that every drop of the oil has been removed.
Splash your face with cold water to refresh and make your pours appear smaller. Then apply a moisturizer. You can use your regular moisturizer for this step or a very small amount of the oil you used for cleansing. Massage until the oil is completely absorbed. Some people find that they do not need the moisturizing step. Evaluate your skin after removing the cleansing oil to decide for yourself.

Like any change in a skin care regimen, it will take time to truly decide whether the oil cleansing method is a good way to clean your skin. Some people report a breakout after a week of using the oil cleansing method, but these problems normally clear within a few days. Others have no skin problems to report. Devotees of the oil cleansing method report a healthy glow to their skin and a lack of acne. Try it and see if it is right for you.

Carrier oils and their properties

Almond

Sweet almond oil is one of the most popular carrier oils, since it is non-greasy, spreads easily and also is great for nourishing the skin.
Sweet almond oil is obtained from the dried kernels of the almond tree. Not only does almond oil help protect the surface of the skin, but acts as an emollient, skin soother and softener while conditioning the skin and promoting a clear young looking complexion ; helps to relieve muscular aches and pains ; helps the skin to balance its loss and absorption of moisture.

It is suitable for all skin types, especially good for dry or irritated skin and helps relieve irritation, inflammation and itching; is greatly lubricating and because it is not an overly fast penetrating oil, it is a good massage medium to use to help spread the oil and essential oil mixture, while still allowing you time to do a good massage before it is absorbed by the skin.
Although mostly used on its own as a massage carrier oil, diluting with 10% wheatgerm oil gives a longer shelf life.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has been used for centuries due to the beneficial effect it has on the skin. Aloe vera encourages skin rejuvenation, healing of wounds and treatment of sunburn. It is also used to help in relieving arthritis pain, improving blood circulation, reducing scarring, and has anti-inflammatory properties.

It has been known for generations help reduce inflammation, pain and itching, to accelerate wound healing, a superb penetrating moisturizing agent, helping to stimulate the body's immune system while being naturally hypoallergenic with about the same pH balance of the skin.
Aloe vera has great healing qualities which makes it a good choice to use on its own, or to include when mixing a massage oil or preparing a carrier oil blend for aromatherapy massage.
Other medicinal uses include treating radiation ulcers, peptic ulcers, thermal burns, wounds, pimples, freckles, spots, dandruff, split ends, menstrual problems, constipation, urine disorders, and improving digestion.

Apricot (prunus armeniaca)

This is a very precious oil with a short shelf life. Keep refrigerated or in a dark cool place when storing. Apricot kernel Carrier Oil is a pale yellow, light, finely textured base oil that is extracted from the seed kernel of the apricot fruit.

It is high in Vitamins A and B, which helps with healing and rejuvenating skin cells. It is very rich in gamma linoleic acid and produces a small amount of free radical fighting anti-oxidants, as well as Vitamin E. Extremely good in skin care preparations, for all skin types, especially premature aging skin, wrinkles,sensitive, inflamed or dry skin. Use as a 10-50% dilution with any facial care preparation.

Best for facial massage, mature and delicate skin. Quickly absorbs into the skin. particularly helpful for dehydrated, delicate, mature, or sensitive skin helps to sooth inflammation.
This finely textured oil spreads easily and its moisturizing, nourishing and revitalizing properties combine well with essential oils, to give a superb facial massage.

avocado (persea americana)

- rich, heavy, deep green, with lots of skin-nourishing vitamins (a and e). is very useful when treating sun or climate damaged skin that is dehydrated and undernourished as it is said to help with regenerating the skin and softening the tissue.

Although it can be used pure, it is in most cases mixed with another carrier oil, such as Almond oil, or Grapeseed oil to make up 10% of the carrier mixture.

Avocado oil is easily absorbed into deep tissue, and with its wonderful emollient properties, makes it ideal for mature skins as well as helping to relieve the dryness and itching of psoriasis and eczema.

The finest quality oil is cold-pressed from the flesh of the fruit. It has a slight emerald green hue, which is important to note in order to obtain the quality you are looking for. This oil is rich in essential fatty acids, as well as beta-carotene and vitamin E. It is superb for treatment of aging skin because of its ability to penetrate deep into the skin layers. It is also ideal for treatment of dry and dehydrated skin. It has shown to improve eslastin and to help cell regeneration. Use as a 10% additive in any cosmetic blend.

borage (borago officinalis)

- This oil is rich in essential fatty acids and is one of the highest GLA sources known. GLA stimulates cell activity, assisting in the regeneration and rejuvenation of the skin.. It is a great oil for maintaining healthy skin. It is helpful on prematurely aged skin, damaged by exposure to sunlight to promote cell regeneration. Use on all skin types as a 10% additive. It is rather expensive oil, therefore; smaller amounts are added to skincare preparations goes rancid quickly.

Calendula or Marigold (calendula officinalis)

This oil is obtained from the flowers of the marigold plant, picked when they are in full bloom from early to late summer. Calendula is known to have antimicrobial properties, as well as being anti-inflammatory, astringent, wound healing, anti-fungal and antiseptic. This oil is supreme in soothing sore, itchy, or burned skin. You may use this oil to treat acne, swollen areas, broken capillaries and varicose veins. This oil is also cell regenerative and therefore ideal for use on wrinkles and aging skin. Use as a 15-25% additive or neat on the skin. Mixing this oil with certain essential oils adds to its value, such as adding 1% tea tree to enhance its anti-fungal properties or geranium at 1% to increase its astringent effect.

calophyllum inophyllum

- rich and thick, with spicy smell. stimulates cell regeneration. antiseptic. helps wounds to heal, soothes inflammation, relieves pain, good for broken capillaries, eczema, burns, rashes, insect bites. quite expensive, though.
It is an exceptional skin care oil, especially against inflammatory problems, acne and more.

camellia

- very light, with just a touch of delicate flowery aroma. good for preventing the thickening of skin in scar tissue. the japanese use it for hair care. Another very expensive, but beautiful oil that has anti-aging properties. It is very nourishing to the skin. Wonderful for dry lines and wrinkles.

Centella Oil (Brahmi)- (Centella Asiatica)

Research shows amazing effects on the skin as An active substance, Asiaticosid, stimulates cell growth of the skin. Its high concentration of tri-terpenes also makes it an important oil for skin care, having a stimulating effect on the biosynthesis of collagen.
As a medical treatment, cures disorders of blood circulation like, blood clots. supports healing of wounds, scars and burns, Even old scars.

Reduces fat cells, cellulite. In France, taking capsules of the extract complements the external treatment. They stimulate the whole metabolism and functions as a natural diuretic.

cocoa butter

Cocoa butter was found suitable to be used as one of the ingredients in producing a good quality cream. It gives a shiny, non-oily feel and spread easily on the skin giving a lustrous and velvety feeling. Excellent for dry skin and dry skin diseases on its own. Known to sooth, soften, moisturize, lubricate and nourish the skin.
A waxy solid at room temperature..

Coconut (cocos nucifera)
This oil is very light, and is obtained by solvent extraction of the dried flesh of the coconut. It is solid. It is wonderful for aromatherapy use because it is odorless and will not mask the scent of essential oils. Coconut oil is able to block out at least 20% of the sun’s UV rays. Especially good for healing wounds and skin which is dry or itchy. May be used on all types of skin. Use as a 10-15% additive. Most useful as a carrier for essential oil perfumes.

This is a great oil for general moisturizing and serves as a protective layer, helping to retain the moisture in your skin. It also acts as a mild oil suitable for those with inflamed and irritated skin, and those with skin sensitivities. Coconut oil is without a doubt, the number one lather-producing agent used in soaps.

And Coconut oil can not clog pores, making it an ideal carrier for oily or troubled skin. Has a heavy distinctive smell.

flaxseed

- rich, yellow in colour, smells a bit like butter. high in vitamin e, stimulates cellular regeneration, useful for preventing scarring and stretch marks. goes rancid quickly.

grapeseed (vitis vinifera)

Grapeseed oil is a good second choice carrier especially for those whose skin seems not to absorb other oils very quickly. It does not leave a greasy feeling to the skin after application. Slightly astringent, Odorless, penetrating, and very light , easily absorbed , mildly astringent , tightens and tones the skin, which makes it useful for acne. it is always solvent-extracted, causing sensitivity in some individuals.

hazelnut (corylus avellana)

- light, easily absorbed, with a delicate aroma. tones and tightens the skin, strengthens capillaries, assists in cell regeneration. might be adulterated (beware of "good bargains"!) Very good for damaged skin.

It contains good levels of essential fatty acids, including linolenic acid and oleic acid. This oil is highly penetrative, with a slightly astringent effect on the skin. It is good for acne and combination skin types. You may prefer to use this oil in a 50/50 % solution with less odorous base oil. It is a popular oil for skin care preparations.

Jojoba (simmondsia chinensis)

A liquid wax rather than an oil, jojoba mimics sebum and penetrates skin very rapidly. It is therefore not good for massage, but excellent for nourishing skin. It is healing for inflamed skin, psoriasis, eczema, or any sort of dermatitis. It can help control acne and oily skin or scalp since excess sebum actually dissolves in jojoba. Jojoba is anti-oxidant. Used also for hair care. Good for all skin types, but can sometimes clog pores. The myristic acid it contains is anti-inflammatory, so this could be a good base oil for treating rheumatism and arthritis

As it is similar in composition to the skin's own oils, it is quickly absorbed. good for dry and mature skin and inflamed conditions. helps to control acne, oily skin and oily scalp. it is an antioxidant - does not become rancid and can prevent rancidity in other oils.

This oil is virtually colorless and with a smoky odor. It is a great oil in that it needs little refining and is extremely stable. The chemical structure of this oil resembles that of the skins’ own sebum. Moisturizes the skin, also acts as an emulsifier, gently unclogging pores and freeing any embedded materials. This oil may be used for treating acne and is a good anti-inflammatory. It contains fatty acids, proteins and minerals that are vital for the protection and nourishment of the skin’s collagen. Moreover, it provides some protection against UV rays. Use in blends combined with essential oils as a stabilizer as well to extend the shelf life of product.

kukui (Aleurites Moluccans)

very thin, very light , with a strong smell; high in linolenic and inolenic acids, quickly absorbed into the skin. very expensive.

Kukui oil has been used by natives of Hawaii for hundreds of years. They recognized the oil's high penetrability and soothing properties and currently use to sooth sunburns and chapped skin. contains very high levels of the essential fatty acids linoleic and alpha-linolenic. This oil is readily absorbed into the skin, providing tissues the essential elements that it needs and is particularly good for dry skin, psoriasis, acne and eczema.

olive

Olive oil is a dark green oil which is rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential fatty acids, especially alpha linolenic acid. It is a good oil for skin care, especially dehydrated, dry, inflamed or acned skin reducing itchiness and also a good preventative for stretch marks during pregnancy. It makes an excellent conditioner for hair and nails,acne, bruises, insect bites and sprains. and is also used for rheumatic conditions. This is a heavier oil so dilute it 10 to 50% in other carrier oils.

Can be stored without refrigeration for a year.
Known for its ability to absorb the burning rays of the sun and often used in suntan lotions,filters out up to 20% of the sun’s UV-rays. It is moisturizing and is good for dry skin use extra virgin and virgin only. They both contain useful levels of essential fatty acid, alpha linolenic acid. May be used as a 50/50 base mixed with another, less odorous oil.

peach kernel

Similar in properties to apricot kernel oil. Excellent ofor cell regeneration. Good for blemished and scarred skin

rose hip seed (Rosa rubiginosa)

- another oil high in gla, which helps the skin to heal and regenerate. it can prevent the thickening of skin in scar tissue and is helpful in healing burns, scars and stretch marks. however, it can aggravate acne and it goes rancid quickly. High in Vitamin C and somewhat astringent. It is very nourishing to the skin. Aids in the acid balance. Good for aging skin.
A light blush wine colored oil from the ripened fruit of the famed Rosehip, also known as Rosa Mosquita.

This unique oil is extremely high in essential fatty acids and has carried much respect amongst professional journals and organizations as being a great agent in the fight against dry, weathered, and dehydrated skin. It works wonders on scars and is the predominant oil used for treating wrinkles and premature aging. Can be used in all fine skin care recipes.

Shea Butterr (butyrospermum parkii kotschy, sapotaceae)

This butter is from the seeds of the Karite Tree. It is very rich in texture and is even more emollient than cocoa butter or lanolin.

Shea Butter is exceptionally rich and contains fatty acids, which stimulate the skin’s natural renewal process, and replenishes lost oils. It encourages the balanced production of lipids, the skins’ own self-created lubricants. It is a light wound emollient, and contains properties that accelerate healing of wounds, dermites, cracks, crevices and skin ulcers. It has anti-elastase characteristics, which makes it a good ingredient to fight stretch marks. Used mostly for dry, dehydrated skin, as it is soothing, moisturizing and has protective effects on the skin. It is known to have some protective effect on skin, which is prone to have sun allergies. Use as a base or as an additive.

St. John’s Wort: (hypericum perforatum)

This macerate comes from the flowers and leaves of the perennial weed, and is collected in the midsummer months. This oil is anti-inflammatory, astringent, vulnerary and anti-rheumatic. Use to heal wounds, dandruff, pimples, sunburns, bruises and to add sore muscles and back and neck injuries. Use as a base or as a 10-50% additive. Known to help with healing of cuts, bruises and contusions.

walnut (juglans regalia)

Walnut oil has great emollient qualities and is a good choice as carrier. It acts as a co-ordinator and balances the nervous system. Also known to help alleviate menstrual problems including PMS. especially good for skin care because of its high levels of essential fatty acids. Walnut oil contains 18% gamma linolenic acid, 60% linoleic acid, 8% palmitic and 18% oleic acid. May use 100% or as an additive to any aromatherapy skin remedy.
It is a pleasant nutty smelling oil and contains a small amounts of GLA.It is reported to have benefits when used in the healing of wounds and skin problems.

wheat germ (triticum vulgare)

- very thick, honey-coloured, smells strongly of dark bread. high in vitamin b, a and e, good for dry and cracked skin, mature complexions, eczema, psoriasis, scars, stretch marks. Gives good results in Skin care. it is antioxidant and will extend the shelf-life of other oils. Especially, about 10% should be added in blends that may be used for a year or so
It has a strong odor, which may be difficult to cover up. It is extremely high in Vitamin E and is one of the few plant sources that provide near-complete proteins. This oil is said to be able to penetrate deep into the skin and help to repair damage caused by over exposure to the sunlight. Use on prematurely aging skin and as a preventative for stretch marks. Add up to 15% of this oil to another base oil, which is lighter, such as grapeseed or almond. This oil is also an extender to the shelf life of blends.

So for the next week i am going to be MIA. I have to have to finish off my job search stuff. I know it has nothing to do with the usual posts but....So i need to work on my logo designm which needless to say I have been struggling with. Im having diffculty narrowing down what image i want to portray in my business card, my resume , my portfolio. I know I want colour and I want it to be elegant, sophisticated, simple but edgy too. Im in my early 20's i dont want fuddy dud but i dont want something that screams youth either.

Since i had given myself a deadline of March 1st to finish my business card and resume, everyday next week I will be solely working on that. No blogs, no surfing, no research (except design related).

Red eye. In Jamaica you call some one red eye acutally it would be more like red yie, when there lusting after something or jealous. In my case Im lusting after something. Trish McEvoy brushes to be exact. I took out her book "The Power of Makeup" from the library and became interested in her products, mainly her planners and her brushes. The one draw back apart from the price is I dont know if her colours are compatible with darker complexions. Many companies say that the colours will fit all skin types but do they really no, they dont.

This palette is called "The Prettiest" it is in remembance of a former Trish employee who passed away or so the story goes.

This is the power of makeup took kit which retails about $295.00 American. Yeah too bad the Canadian dollar isnt even with it anymore. :(

The petite simple chic double decker palette. Your all in one, I dont know if it comes in different shades for different skin tones but it would be really nice. Unfortuantely her website is under construction, so the only way you can check is to search on other sites.

The reviews for her products vary but one thing that everybody agrees on is that her brushes are worth the cost. I dont think that they are really any more expensive than a M.A.C. brush or a Bobby Brown brush, but hey I haven't bought one from either company so what do I know :)

Makeup trials

So, I have started to test my samples. Ill start with the foundation first. Meow cosmectics was a straight dud, I didnt even have to try it on, to know. All the samples were way too light, So that was a pass. Next up is Lumeire, there warm deep is passable, though when I took a pic I seriously seriously looked like michael jackson, white sheen and all, Even the hair it was so not cool. My monave sample came yesterday and I wore it today it was good, I had a Brandy base with some Yolanda. Now i dont have the exact ratio as I was just eyeballing it and using a mini concealer brush to transfer it. Ghetto. yes I know.

For the eye shadows I absolutely love Meow Cosmetics Vandeleyes: Mugshot it is the perfect nude colour for me. Pretty sure I will purchase a full size one, I mixed in a little Idealeyes: Feroucious feline purrl, just to add a little warmth, it was okay. I still have to play with it a bit.
I have done green eyes, purples eyes and the neutal. I have to be careful though that I dont do too shimmery on my face. Shimmer on the eyes and black folk dont usually gree. It makes us look ashy, which it did make me look ashy.

I bought an eye and lip primer, on sunday, it was okay today, I couldnt really rate it as my eyes were irratating me and I pretty much wiped all the makeup off :D I also used my clean and clear shine control for a primer last week. It was awesome, the eye makeup was still there. Im oily and Ive got creases in my eyelids so the makeup doesnt usually last. I was very pleased with that.

Hey, it was a snow or it is a snow day today, so my work is closed. Sweet deal. I now have more time to search the net for research and stuff.
Anyways some of my samples of mineral makeup have come in. Lumiere, she space and meow have sent their samples, Im waiting on Monave and silk naturals to send theres. Im hesitant to try them out, I've read tons of great reviews for the products from each company, but theres so much technique behind it that I want to know before I start putting it one. I want to achieve the optimal look with the makeup. Im thinking if I dont use the primer and the proper way to apply concealer then the product might be great but I wont think so because it looks bad on me.
So I am reading up on the techinques and which and which primer most are using or most recommend. I think Im going to use the one recommended by www.shadesofu.blogspot.com she uses Camilla rose skin smoothing primer. I have checked out camillas website, its pretty low key, but she gets tons of orders so there is a waiting period.
Thinking about it now maybe Ill try and place and order right after this, she does offer sample sizes, so you can try out the primer and see if you like it. Did I ever say that I love samples because well I do.
They allow you to try the product ( sometimes I wish they could give you a little more, but hey they have to make some money no?) without committing to a large size and a large cost which is the bonus. You can see if the foundation is the right shade for you or if you need to mix two shades together, you can do that with the samples.
Ahhh you gotta love them.

So, since I have renewed my interest in make up, Im learning all kinds of things that really sound helpful. Long and intricate but helpful, like face primer( which I was familiar with before) eye primer ( not famililar with it at all) and eye shadow base( now I know what ppl were talking about in there tutorials.

Apply the moisturizer and let it soak in at least 3 minutes before applying foundation. if your skin is oily look for oil-free and non-comedogenic moisturizer. If your skin is sensitive look for a product specifically designed for sensitive skin. The appropriate moisturizer for you will be the one that is fragrance-free and doesn’t contain potential allergens.If you have dry skin look for a heavier, oil-based and hypoallergenic moisturizer. There are many moisturizers for dry skin on the market that nourish, soothe, calms dry skin.

Use a makeup primer

Using a makeup primer is the best way to make your makeup stay put on for longer. The makeup primers are relatively new products on the market. Their aim is to prepare the skin for the makeup application, they pamper the skin and create a protective base for longer- lasting, natural looking foundation application and wear. The primers give the makeup something to grab onto and help your makeup last longer, because the makeup primers create a smooth and perfect surface. Most of them are oil and fragrance-free and have a gel formula that allows an even and precise application. They work especially well for people with oily and combination skin as they control both excess shine and absorb the oil.If you apply makeup primer before the foundation it won’t rub off. A primer should be applied after your moisturizer and before the foundation. It’s essential to let it sink in for a few minutes. Use eyeshadow base

Use waterproof mascara

Use oil blotters

The oil blotters blot off the excess oil from your face without removing the makeup. They don’t leave a residue and keep your makeup fresh. You can use blotters instead of face powder to correct your makeup during the day – they instantly remove the excess shine and oil from the face, allowing your makeup to stay put on for longer. Just press them gently to the areas that get shiny – forehead, chin and nose area to blot up the excess oil and perspiration from your skin. Oil is soaked up and away from your face and your makeup won’t be disturbed at all you can use them as often as required.

Do an at home Facial according to Diana Carswell who happens to be a beauty consultant who wrote an article in the Washington Post on how one can do a facial in the comfort of their own home. Random? I'd like to think so, but I like what it says and it explains it simply but well. Hence the post.

CLEANSE.

A warmed mixture of 1 to 2 tablespoons whole milk and several drops of olive oil is great for cleaning and soothing most types of dry skin: Milk gently removes dirt and makeup, and olive oil is an exceptional moisturizer. Wash your hands to avoid transferring bacteria or dirt, then warm the cleanser by working it between your palms. Gently massage it into your skin, distributing evenly using sweeping, circular movements. (This will also stimulate circulation.) Remove with warm water, splashing upward until you've flushed out the pores.

EXFOLIATE.

Dead cells, which clog pores and flake, can make skin look dull and patchy. To concoct your own exfoliant: Mix 1/2 cup dry oatmeal, 3 tablespoons almond oil, 1 tablespoon finely ground sea salt (or cornmeal for more sensitive skin) and 1/4 teaspoon fresh mint with enough warm water to form a paste. Dampen your skin, then use gentle circular movements to apply the paste, avoiding the eye area. Rinse. Repeat only once or twice a month, and don't exfoliate if your skin is irritated or broken out.

TONE.

An often overlooked but necessary step, toning removes cleanser residue and refreshes the skin. It also creates a base coat for your moisturizer, which is easier to work into damp skin. For a stimulating toner, mix one part witch hazel with two parts rose or orange-blossom water. Witch hazel's antiseptic properties combat blemishes without causing the skin to become dry or flaky; rose water stimulates circulation; and orange-blossom water helps balance the skin's pH. Using 100 percent cotton pads, sweep the solution across your face and neck until the cotton shows no residue. Remember to include the jawline, where breakouts are common.

STEAM.

Steaming, which helps open pores, primes the skin for deep cleaning. In a large pot, boil 1 quart of distilled water. Next, infuse the water by wrapping fragrant herbs of your choice (chamomile, eucalyptus, lavender) in gauze or cheesecloth, lowering the heat, and placing the cloth in the pot for five minutes. Remove the pot from the heat and set it on a protected surface. Apply a light layer of almond or sesame oil to the face (this acts as a buffer, protecting your skin from the heat), then bend over the pot, tenting a clean towel over your head to catch the steam. (Be careful not to get too close.) Stay there five minutes, then pat dry.

MASK.

Masks serve multiple purposes in a comprehensive facial: They deep-clean, stimulate circulation, remove dead skin and hydrate. Oily or blemished skin responds well to an application of a paste made of Fuller's Earth (clay) and mineral water. Avoid the eye area while applying and let the mask set until nearly dry. Then rinse thoroughly with warm water. To hydrate drier skin, use a mix of 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon honey and a few drops of safflower oil. Or, to get that firm Academy Awards texture (sans Botox), apply 2 egg whites to tighten pores, followed by an application of plain yogurt to brighten the complexion.

MASSAGE.

To soothe the skin in the last phase of the facial, a moisturizer should be massaged into the skin. Put a generous amount on your hands and work them together to warm up the cream. Concentrate on areas where muscles are overworked: cheeks, mouth, forehead and around the eyes. Once the lotion is completely absorbed and it becomes more difficult for the fingertips to slip across the skin, blot off any excess with a tissue, and you're done.

So for the last couple posts I've mentioned mineral make-up. I have ordered some samples from various companies whom I've read about in various blogs. My samples from she space came they were all eye shadows. I haven't tried them yet , as I am waiting for my brushes to arrive. Yeah they would be a little help ful no? :D
Anyways it got me to thinking what is the best way to put on mineral make-up. Many posts I have read mention using a primer of some sort, even when its not mineral make-up they mention that. So I searched for application tips for mineral make-up. Most of them are pretty much the same in what they are saying, so I found a simplified version from wikihow.

The steps as per wikihow:

Allow your moisturizer to dry and absorb before applying your makeup.

Apply eye liner next and use your kabuki brush to dust off any powder droppings from your cheeks.

Dab on any enhancers that you may need to specific areas, such as under the eyes. Press fingertip in foundation for a concentrated amount and dab your blemishes to make them disappear.

Apply foundation, blush, eye shadow and mascara. Apply a non-talc rice setting powder if needed.

Tips:

Always use a non-mineral, oil-based moisturizer that will not clog pores. If your moisturizer does not absorb into your skin, neither will your mineral makeup!

Use a setting powder on eyelids to set shadows and avoid creases.

Use a setting powder as a base all over if you have oily skin...it will help absorb the oil naturally.

With the correct brush, eyeliner will glide on with no gaps. Powder tends to sprinkle, so use your kabuki brush to "pick up" the fallen powder.

Always apply eyeliner prior to foundation so you won't leave smudges from sprinkles.

Using special enhancers such as "polished" will refract light and make your dark under-eye cirles disappear. Also use in the corner of eyes, mouth, etc. to reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Foundation should be applied in light layers. If you feel you need more coverage, keep applying light layers.

Brush your blush on the same way you would traditonal makeup, but be sure to use your kabuki brush to avoid outlines and streaking.

Apply mineral eye shadow as usual..lighter colors under brow line and darker colors on the lid.

For those with oily skin, finishing with a setting powder will give extra protection and oil absorbtion and help you obtain a matte finish.

So far this is the simpliest explanation that I have found, though I will continue to search.

Hey a gurl needs her beauty sleep. :D Anyways just browsing the many and varied beauty blogs, I can tell you that my blog will never be up there just because I am not that interested in it. Mind you I like make up but I'm not familiar enough with it to write and or spend the money to test products and brushes. And truth I will get lazy so I wont want to write for a while or maybe I'll just want to nude a no makeup look day for like a month. Yeah that's me right there.
But I do love the verstility of make-up the different and varied things you can do, yes I know those words are pretty much the same, just work with me alright. :D
I'll do some searches when I get the chance and post the make up looks that I like, I wont say love cuz I havent worn it.

So in the last post, I said that I am interested in buying mineral makeup. And well I have, I purchased samples from a few different companies, monave, she space, lumiere, and mewo cosmectics. There samples are fairly cheap they range from $.50 to $3.00 for shadows, blushes and lip gloss. two of which I purchased. Now I am not too sure that it was a bright idea since one of them was clear. Yeah I know very risky :D.

They havent arrrived yet so I havent played with them yet. Though I am very cautious in my makeup and the colours that I wear in general. I stick to neutrals, blacks, greys, whites and small splashes of colour.

When I get them I'll write what I think, and if any of them fit my complexion. Though I do have high hopes for my monave stuff. They have names like brandy and yolanda, yeah there black folk so maybe just maybe I wont have to mix anything together. *fingers crossed*

I want some mineral makeup, I was on shadesofu.blogspot.com's blog (yes i know its not linked, but it is in the blogs i like list) anyways to the point. She is a big fan of mineral makeup which i had tried way back in '06 ( man time flies..) I hadnt really liked it at the time simply because the foundations need fit my skin tone and for some reason I had ordered purple, yes purple blush. I'm black why , purple wont even show up on me. So needless to say it didnt work out well, ( i gave them to my mom, her complexion is lighter than mine)

Now back to the point, shes a big fan of mineal make up and she is doing a bang up job of creating a convert out of me, if I didnt have bills to pay I would have purchased how many samples by now. Ahh samples how I love thee. :D There really good for trying things as a oppose to paying full size for something you think sucks, though you can try to return it, but it can become a hassle. Anyways that coupled with my revived interest in natural products is making me lean strongly on the side of purchasing me some mineral makeup. Just not right now though. I do have the websites saved though, so if I want to tempt myself I can. :D

Im not going to write much as I am seriously tired, I know its only like 10:41 ( well in my time zone) but I have had a seriously long day, I know im using that word alot :D I was up at 5 today, left for work at 7:30 stopped by the craft store after work, took the bus home, stopped and picked up some life cereal and bran squares ( theyre on sale reg. 3.99 now 1.97 yeah ima pick some up.) then my mom, my aunt, uncle and I went to Ikea. Sorry to say but I really do love Ikea, i could spend soooo much money in that place, actually I have :D, oh but wait it doesnt end there, went to wal-mart after that and then finally home.

I wanted to check out a website that I saw when I was at work shadesofu.blogspot.com it looked reall interesting when I went there and as you may have noticed I added to my blogs I like links. Yeah i know there are soooo many there :D

Now to the tired part, my little brotheres are driving me bonkers, there suppose to be in there bed, and sleeping but are they not at all. But i will be, so went I turn off the lights and go to my soft bed, I better not hear any noise cuz they will ear from me and they wont like it.

The last two, no three days have been absolutely horrible with a capital H. I lost how much amount of money..............in my room ( well everybody claims that they didnt touch it... yeah right) so its gotta be somewhere. Next i got a serious allegeric reaction from a body scrub that i had used on friday, started satday, got worse on sunday and hit the pain jackpot on monday.

I didnt go to work, yeahhh! but it wasnt any fun to be at home, advil, tynoal, hot compress, cold compress, epsom salt bath, tea tree oil bath. plain bath, regular salt bath nothing worked. I hadnt slept at all on sunday night cuz i was in sooo much pain. well it wasnt all pain but alot of discomfort and swelling.

Did a whole lot of research on the internet, and oh yeah i did an oats bath to ease the itching. it worked. for about two minutes, but I digress. So I did research on the internet and saw a post about Benadryl allergy medecine and cortisone cream for swelling and itching, they werent in the same post. But I put them together.

Now I am better, much better, the swelling hasnt gone down yet, but the itching as stopped which is sooo nice, cuz you know when you itch you make it worse.

I have decided to make a list of things I want to do, whether they are friviolous or not.

1. travel to paris ( and have enough money to buy stuff, though i hear that the country parts of france are better, and that those in the city aren't fond of bathing but this girl will have to see and smell for her self)
2. travel to venice( I want to go on a gondola, i hear that the city is beautiful, regardless of the smell of the water that venice pretty much resides on)
3.travel to florida, california, aspen, nyc ( i live in canada and have not add the oppurtunity as yet to travel the states so, i want to see those place oh yeah and Hawaii, even though it costs and arm an a leg)
4.get a nice design job that i absolutely love ( yes i know it sounds like fantasy but its my list isnt it?)

There is still plenty of things i would like to do i just have to think of them

5.act in a movie( not the starring role, sorry just not me but maybe the villian, and i have super powers and can leap from tall buildings in stilitoes. yeah man :D)
6. go back to school for a business course or something that im interested in( which i have no idea of at this moment.)

Its been a while

So its been a few days since i've been on. not that there was much going on. I washed my hair, which i really hate doing, because it gets dry and hard to comb and the roots are so tough to detangle, and then to style it feels like i have to set aside a whole day for it. So i tried three new products yesterday they were all from Ojon. acutally i only tired two from Ojon cuz i cant read and used the conditioner to 'shampoo' my hair. though i hear that's a good method as it doesnt dry out your hair too much. it didnt do much for me.I did a steam oil treatment as well again I didnt really feel it either, but I'm sure its something you have to do a couple of times.
Today i bought a whole lot of oils that should be good for your hair, avacado, castor,jojoba, grapeseed, sesame, apricot, almond. Im not sure how im going to use them yet, as most information i read advises you to not put too much oil in your hair. I think Im going to try a
twist style, that way i wont have to comb my hair everyday, which I sooo love doing *not*

I have come across a website that gives those basic instructions on how one can do different styles in their hair. Whether all the styles are applicable to those with natural hair, I'm not sure. My aunt seems to think that a wet set on natural hair would look bad, as i have no previous experience with this and she does, I can't really agree or disagree.

With the number of websites out there I can'f find one, not one that can give me details and information on different styles that can be done with natural hair and the steps to obtain said style. There are a few that I am familiar with, such as the fro', two strand twists, wet sets and straw sets. But i want pictures not ambiguous descriptions. Sometimes we use relaxers in hopes of making our hair more manageable (manageability being subjective) because they are used to loosen the curl. Unfortunately they can cause more damage than help. There are currently two classifications of relaxers in use - lye based (sodium hydroxide) and no-lye (calcium or guanidine hydroxide). Relaxers de-fat the scalp and permanently alter the structure of the hair and scalp. This compounds the problem of dry hair and breakage since the hair is stripped of natural emollients and less resilient than untreated hair. Never use relaxers on damaged hair. Never use relaxers on hair previously treated with cold wave products (Jheri Curl, Wave Noveau, etc.) or vise versa. Allow the hair to grow out before changing chemical services.

Another breed of relaxers called demi perms enable tight curls to be replaced by larger, looser ones. Demi-perms are usually used on short hair, giving a controlled shape to short cuts; on long hair they produce a loose spiral curl look. The more advanced perms involve softening the hair by weaving it onto rollers and then neutralizing it so that the curls are permanently set into their new shape. To prevent frizzies and maintain the definition of curls, special lotions called curl activators and moisturizing sprays are used to revive and preserve curl formation.

If we don't want to deal with our own hair or want a straight look for a while on natural hair, weaves can offer an alternative. Hair weaving and braiding is a great way to wear straight and curly hair styles without harsh chemicals. Weave hair can be braided or bonded onto natural hair or chemically treated hair. Hair weaves can spare our hair the trauma of harsh chemical service and the problems associated with it - hair loss and breakage. Be aware of the problem of Traction Hair Loss, a problem associated with improper hair weaving and braiding. Tips to keep African American and Ethnic hair beautiful:

Use a wide-toothed Afro-comb for curly hair and a natural bristle brush for relaxed hair. Combing will help spread the natural oils through the hair, making it look shinier and healthier. Use intensive pre-shampoo treatments.
Massage the scalp regularly to encourage oil production.
Shampoo as often as you feel necessary but only lather once, using a small amount of shampoo. Rinse thoroughly. Towel-blot, don?t rub hair.
Once a month try a hot oil treatment, which will lubricate dry scalp conditions as well as moisturize brittle hair.
If you have a delicate fringe (bangs) or baby fine hair around the hairline (sometimes from breakage, sometimes an inherited trait), use tiny round bristly and a hairdryer to blend this hair.
Gels are good for molding hair into shape; choose non-greasy formulas that give hair a healthy sheen.

I use the term advice loosely, as said advice can range and in some instances can contradict each other. It's Just Different by Ms SNIPs

Our hair is the most unique hair in the world due to the rich and varied racial makeup that exists within a person of color. Yet it is this wonderful difference that can make finding a stylist in certain areas of the country or the world that can properly address the needs of our hair a challenge. Our hair is perceived as difficult, when in reality it is simply different. Many non-black stylists or sometimes, non-black mothers of black or biracial children often wonder what is so different about African American hair that makes it any more difficult to style and manage than other hair types. The answer is easy, if you look at it from the point of it not being about the hair itself, but how you handle it. Hair is hair is hair, made up of the same proteins and cells. The difference lies in the shape of the hair follicle and the density of the layers of the hair strand. Because of this difference, in many ways, our hair is at odds with the European ideal of what is considered a normal styling and care method.

For instance, generally speaking, African American hair :

Is easier to comb when wet or damp and can break easily when dry. Is spongy which equals a healthy texture; notice how many products say healthy hair feels like silk?
In its natural state, has as a sheen, not a shine; notice how product marketing says healthy hair is supposed to shine?

Our hair is very versatile, but tends to be fragile and therefore needs special care and pampering if it is to look its best. Afro hair is almost always curly, although the amount of curl varies enormously. Afro textured hair can be brittle and has a tendency to split and break. This is because our sebaceous glands sometimes produce smaller amounts of sebum to moisturize the hair. In addition, because our hair is tightly curled, the sebum is unable to travel downwards to condition it naturally. If the curl forms kinks, this makes the hair thinner, which can be weaker at each bend. Still other types of black hair can be very fine with additional challenges.

If the hair suffers from excessive dryness, choose a product formulation that replaces the natural oils that can sometimes be lacking in African American and Ethnic hair. If the product is massaged in daily, or whenever necessary, the hair will become more manageable with improved condition and shine. It is also important to deep condition the hair regularly. While a No Oil routine will be best for some, those whose hair benefits from oil will find that 100% Emu Oil is an excellent natural dry hair treatment that can be used daily on dry hair and with washing. After washing, mix a small amount of Emu Oil in with your regular cream conditioner. You will see an improvement with just one treatment. Emu Oil can be used alone or with any cream conditioner. Use a heating cap for more penetrating hot oil treatment.
